Tile quantities are usually fairly simple to calculate. Just grab your tape measure and calculator, and some simple math will get you there. It's always best for someone who has been in the physical space to take care of quantities. This is because they are able to understand whether their measurements are exact or approximate, lay out the room based on tile size and ideal pattern, and estimate more appropriately how much overage they'll need.

We've put together an infographic that takes you through very basic quantity calculation step by step. There are far more scenarios than we can cover here, so please understand this is not all-inclusive. If you have questions or your space is more complicated, the best first step is always to ask your installer. They may even be planning to calculate quantities for you.

How big is the soap niche? What is the depth of your tub? How tall do you want your pony wall? Where would you like to terminate the backsplash? These questions often don't show up on plans. As the home owner, you can generally make those calls. While you’re at it, try your hand at calculating your own quantities.

Enjoy the process and keep it as simple as possible.
